Big schools vs. small schools

-

Due to cuts in welfare spending, eight small schools (from villages around Aalborg) risked being closed. However, Aalborg City Council decided to keep them open. Now, the 11 big schools in Aalborg are concerned that they will receive less funding, which will force them to fire some of the teachers. In that direction, they sent a letter to the City Council with the question, “Should the overall quality of education decline just to save eight village schools?”

  • The spending on “children’s welfare and education” in Aalborg needs to be reduced by 125 million DKK. The closure of the eight village schools would have saved 33 million DKK. Now, funding for all the schools in Aalborg will be reduced to reach that amount.
