The North Danish port accumulated a debt of 600 million DKK over the past years. This situation forced Thisted municipality to take over operations and invest 175 million DKK until 2025 to keep the port open. The 175 million DKK will be obtained by canceling other infrastructure investments and cutting costs on services for citizens. The closure of the port would have led to 2.300 people losing their jobs.
