On 26th September, the Germans will elect a new Federal Parliament and Chancellor. The contenders for Angela Merkel’s seat are – Armin Laschet (from Merkel’s party), the social-democrat Olaf Scholz and Annalena Baerbock (Green Party). At the moment Olaf Scholz is in the lead in the opinion polls. Why? He wants to raise the minimum wage to 12 euros per hour (from 9.6 euros today).
